Blender Conference 2022: when a concept contradicts the theme, change the concept

Blender Studio describes dropping a tree-ring logo because it implied cutting a tree down, and moving to procedurally grown succulents.

WHAT THEY DID

The team chose three keywords, drew a tree-ring logo, found 20 rings too busy, then realized tree rings contradict “growing”. They switched to succulents, built them with adjustable node setups, set type in the site’s existing typeface with an eight-step color gradient, and reused the shirt design for an animated title sequence.

HOW IT WENT

The title played at the festival, the logo appeared on shirts and a flag, and the title source files were released under CC-BY.

WORTH KNOWING

From 2022. It documents a concept review catching a meaning problem, which the team says came from feedback, not the tools.
