Blender Conference 2024: a hand-made, mixed-media identity built with free tools

WHAT THEY DID

Andy Goralczyk sketched logo ideas on paper and tested type in Inkscape, had a watercolor of a dachshund at a keyboard painted and scanned into Krita, cleaned up developers’ scanned notes and arranged them in Inkscape, mapped them onto a desk modeled in Blender, then adapted the poster to banners, stickers and a hand-traced screen-printed T-shirt. A script generated festival title cards.

HOW IT WENT

The identity ran across poster, banners, merchandise, venue graphics and festival interstitials. He says he didn’t fully succeed in balancing the logo lettering.

WORTH KNOWING

Venue graphics were made two days before the event. Some project files are behind a paid membership. All the main tools used are free.
