Automating exported artwork filenames with Hazel, Shortcuts and a mouse button

A freelancer in 2024 describes opening folders, running exports and auto-naming files with Bunch, Shortcuts and Hazel on a Mac.

WHAT THEY DID

Jessica Journals combines three pieces on a Mac: a Bunch file that opens Affinity Photo and her work folders, a mouse button that triggers an AppleScript to export and save, and a Hazel rule that renames “Untitled” files to the next version number, such as “Blue Moon - 1920x1080 - Version 01”.

HOW IT WENT

She says it saves a lot of time but gives no figures. Setting the name and resolution each session, saving the first image, and reconfiguring Hazel for new names stay manual.

WORTH KNOWING

It’s specific to her Mac, apps and mouse, and was written in 2024. Test any rename rule on copies first.
