The Animal Breakdown: 104 show graphics generated, approved, then finished in After Effects

Runway says a three-person graphics team made a season of textbook-style animal graphics, keeping producer approval before animating.

WHAT THEY DID

Trusted Media Brands’ team set a consistent textbook style, generated each animal on green screen for easy keying, sent several options to the producer, animated only the approved still, then composited backgrounds, animals and text and finished in After Effects.

HOW IT WENT

The team reports 104 graphics across seven episodes, about two weeks per episode, and more than 10 weeks saved; the creative director estimates illustrating and animating traditionally would take at least double.

WORTH KNOWING

Animations sometimes added elements that weren’t in the approved still, so prompts had to get more specific. After Effects was still needed to finish.
